AI think Fearney stayed too long. The year the club won the minor premiership, he should have left. He should have left for his sake and moved to the States and got a head coaching job at a college. Not an assistant’s role like he has now. That would have set him up for life. It is no secret we did not see eye-to-eye over the last few years. I really welcome Mike Kelly and love that he is letting the players play and that is something that people disliked about Fearney, it was his way or the highway. We were not in the finals every year so it was clear that was not working. We proved in year two of public ownership that you did not need to spend heaps to be very competitive.

How do you like the look of the new team that starts its season tonight in Brisbane?

AMike was a blue-collar player and he has put together a blue-collar team. He was a tough nut that worked his backside off. He played hard and he will draw that from the team he has assembled. I am not saying they are going to win the title, but I believe they will be an exciting team to go and support.
