DEALING WITH PERSONAL TRAGEDY

-

Your son Daniel was a promising basketballer before he sadly passed away in 2002. I hear his mates still play a memorial game for him every year, that must be nice that they keep his memory going?

AYeah it really is. Guys like Joel Khalu (right) and his mates do it. It was interesting that when Dan was in high school and Rod Popp had an injury on the Taipans squad, he would ring up the school and get them to send Dan over. He was a big kid, 6’5 in the old and 96kg. He was fearless and did not give a damn about who he played against or their reputation. He went to college in the States for a year and eventually came back to be a Taipans development player. Unfortunately he had his accident soon after. He died after falling from his bicycle while riding with a friend on a Brinsmead track. I am still close with his friends that were there that day when it happened. It was an accident, what happened. It has been hard. People say time heals it, but that is bull; it just teaches you how to deal with it.
