Hair hints to stay ahead in fine style

- DANAELLA WIVELL

GETTING glammed up for Melbourne Cup day doesn’t have to include forking out hundreds of dollars for a beautiful hairstyle.

The Hair Studio’s Michael Medeiros said understanding your hair texture and keeping things simple were the best ways to know how to style your own hair for a big event like the race that stops the nation.

“The most simple of upstyles tend to be quite flattering, a simple style doesn’t take away from the gorgeous dress and staple fascinators that everyone enjoys wearing,” he said.

“If an upstyle makes the client feel uncomfortable then I’d suggest a half-updo or another option.

“Comfort and security gives confidence but I’d recommend every woman to try a glamorous updo at least once. Plus it aids the battle against Australian heat and humidity.”

He said anyone wanting to attempt their own hairstyle at home for Melbourne Cup should turn to his number one styling staple — braids.

“Braids are always a great and lovely way to help mask flyaways and give or reduce volume with their unique and intricate look,” he said.

“Finishing the upstyle with the proper products means everything.

“It’s important to understand your texture wether it be fine and limp or dense and frizzy. There’s the right product out there for everyone.”
