THE gut-wrenching rollercoaster ride along the Cairns Southern Access Corridor will finally be flattened in the not-too-distant future. CBD workers who make the daily commute along the Bruce Hwy have to contend with bile-inducing undulations that only deepen as the road gradually sinks further into the swamp. A Transport and Main Roads spokeswoman confirmed those dips and peaks would be smoothed out as part of a $104 million plan to increase the highway to six lanes from Links Dr to Aumuller St. “The entire section will undergo reconstruction and rehabilitation,” she said. “This includes rectification of the current uneven surface.” A shared bicycle and pedestrian path will also be built.
