Cer­e­mony for chil­dren

the day was about cel­e­brat­ing the lives of the chil­dren lost.

“It’s an emo­tional day, but it’s one that’s around cel­e­brat­ing,” he said. “It’s very much a com­mu­nity event where there’s a lot of fam­ily in­volved, feast­ing and danc­ing as op­posed to a mourn­ing when the fu­neral hap­pens.

“It’s im­por­tant for the fam­ily as it’s part of the griev­ing process and of clo­sure and that cul­tural re­spon­si­bil­ity be­ing ful­filled.”

The day will con­clude with a cul­tural feast for fam­ily mem­bers and the ex­tended com­mu­nity at the Fred Moule Pavil­ion, Cairns Show­ground, in the evening.

EMO­TIONAL: A cer­e­mony will re­mem­ber the chil­dren who died in the Mur­ray St tragedy.
