Kitten chases careful plan

- JORDAN GERRANS

THE debut run of two-yearold Riverside Kitten is around four years in the making for the Cairns-based Fred Wieland stable.

The filly will make her first appearance on race day at Townsville’s Cluden Park tomorrow afternoon in the $16,500 QTIS Two-Years-Old Maiden Handicap (1000m).

Riverside Kitten comes from former Far North mare Destined to Reign, who won seven races from 70 career starts, going around for the last time in late 2012.

“We bought the mother as a tried horse and she was a good mare and eventually retired,” Wieland said.

“We spent four years trying to get a foal out of her and never got in foal.

“She ended up getting in foal to Sea Zulu. It has been a long wait, let’s put it that way.”

Far North trainers Trevor Rowe and Roy Chillemi will also send youngsters for the two-year-old race at Townsville tomorrow afternoon.

Cairns apprentice Amanda Thomson takes the ride on Riverside Kitten.

“She has had a couple of jumpouts and gone fairly well,” Wieland said.

“She is a little bit immature but needs a start.”

Wieland’s De Lady Deluxe, who finished second last start, will be looking to break her maiden status in the last of seven tomorrow.

The Cannon Park-stable also has two runners today at Innisfail at the non-TAB meeting.
