Barron aims to topple leaders

WINNING the small battles will be key for Barron’s chances of an upset against an inform Mulgrave outfit this weekend, according to skipper Jordan Fulton.

Fulton said he expected the Mulgrave team to be full of confidence after their big win last weekend.

“They’ve just got on top of the table so they’re pretty well covered in each department,” he said.

“But we’re not too worried about what they’re going to be doing, we just want to focus on ourselves.

“I suppose the goal will be just trying to match it with them.”

Fulton said that despite the loss of a day’s practice due to sweltering temperatures earlier in the week, the team was able to have a good run on Thursday afternoon.

“I guess they hampered preparations a little bit, but everyone in Cairns cricket’s in the same boat,” he said.

“We’ve just been trying to build on every week. We want to be making sure we’re putting a high price on our wickets, batting properly and bowling good areas.”

Barron opening bat Ben Shrimpton will miss the game to take up his spot in the Queensland Country Under-21 team, making way for the return of Kishan Metzeling and Adam Trewin.

Mulgrave will welcome back their resident tonk-man Jake Roach who will be looking to keep an impressive run of form going that has seen him put up 41, 84* and 44* runs in his last three Cricket Far North matches.

In other round 14 action, Rovers will host Atherton at Endeavour Park, with the visitors welcoming back Michael Salerno as they hunt for backto-back wins for the first time this season.

Cassowary Coast will make the journey to Griffiths Park to take on Norths who will be looking to bounce back after getting knocked off top spot last week.

WE’RE NOT TOO WORRIED ABOUT WHAT THEY’RE GOING TO BE DOING, WE JUST WANT TO FOCUS ON OURSELVES BARRON’S JORDAN FULTON
