Building program a global winner

A GROUNDBREAKING SUITE OF CLOUD-BASED SOFTWARE IS SET TO REVOLUTIONISE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS, INTERWEAVING SEVERAL DIFFERENT INDUSTRIES, AND IT’S THE BRAINCHILD OF CAIRNS-BASED TROY CAVALLARO

A CAIRNS-BASED software engineer is preparing for a stratospheric ride in the wake of international interest in a suite of programs designed to bring the construction industry out of the dark ages.

Troy Cavallaro grew up in Kennedy near Cardwell and moved to Cairns in 1991.

A government opportunity knocked and Mr Cavallaro moved to Brisbane only to return north to co-found Allaro Homes 12 years ago.

For eight years, Mr Cavallaro has worked on a suite of four programs working as one and collectively named PropIntel.

PropIntel is intelligent cloud-based integrated platform technology that connects four construction sectors that come together in the building of a house.

Developed for the engineering, architectural and construction industries, PropIntel connects building information modelling to enable the viewing, costing and tracking the progress of projects from development to delivery.

“Basically it connects all the different sectors of the construction industry together on the one platform,” Mr Cavallaro said. “It allows clients, de- signers, builders and subcontractors to all connect together and create a project.

“It is made up of four software interfaces or titles and each of those serve the different sectors. A client can jump on the website and find a plan and that plan can be designed by anyone anywhere and uses one of the other parts of the software to submit that plan and he can then show that client virtual reality 3D and augmented reality straight out of the software and then it also prices the plan as well.

“Essentially everyone has got their own interface and they are all feeding their information into it and then everybody (gets) the information back out of it in real time.”

Mr Cavallaro’s technology has just been recognised at the 2018 Tropical North Queens- land Innovation Awards.

Taking out the Pipeline Innovation Award, PropIntel adds the accolade to the Ignite Ideas fund grants which won the developer $100,000.

“That grant opened up a lot of doors to begin with and now it has been about people finding out about it. It was a big secret for quite a while when we were working on it and now it’s at the point that we can really talk about it properly.” he said.

“The opportunities now are coming in thick and fast and I am now trying to figure out which one to grab on to and run with at the moment. It’s all

happening,” he said.

The software package has created interest in the construction industry around the world and Mr Cavallaro was tight-lipped about which companies had shown interest, but did say he was in talks with “tier one” companies.

“The journey started to sell it to medium-sized builders but quickly found that some of the biggest companies in Australia and in the world are interested,” he said. “And hopefully next year there is a local project that we will be putting together soon and everyone will see how it all works.”

Mr Cavallaro works at Allaro Homes with his partner, Monika Whitmore, and the couple are expecting their first child on Christmas Eve.

They have together built a one-of-a-kind hi-tech innova- tive home that will be open for display next year.

In the last 12 years, Mr Cavallaro has gained a comprehensive working knowledge of the building industry while working in the family construction business, which he has drawn upon in the idea of linking data connecting information to effectively model every project into a reality.

When Mr Cavallaro is not building groundbreaking industry-first software, he can be found riding his electric skateboard, fishing, socialising with his mates and camping.

For six years Mr Cavallaro has developed a suite of programs that encompasses the whole building spectrum, including pricing from the concept drawings through 3D modelling on the fly.

Clients can view their home in the virtual reality world and through augmented reality to take the concept plan to site and visualise their home on their block of land using a mobile phone app.

Mr Cavallaro’s innovative business ideas developed in Tropical North Queensland are on the cusp of making it big on a global stage.
