Winds drive a surf frenzy

JACK LAWRIE from down south combining with ex-Tropical Cyclone Owen was sending heavy winds along the coast.

Mr Clark said they expected the wind warning to be in effect until Sunday.

“The onshore flow is expected to cause light to medium showers along the entire east coast, Cairns included,” he said. “There’s still a lot of uncertainty as to where Owen will track, the general consensus puts the Far North outside of its range, but it will still send strong winds and showers across the entire east coast.”

Mr Rose said southerly winds were ideal for surfers, as they tend to be cooler and better for waves.

“Because of the changing patterns, we’re hoping this southerly wind continues a little while longer,” he said.

“Usually the season ends in December and comes back in April.”
