SNAKY OVER ATTACK

The Weekend Post - - Sport -

QMy colleague here at the Cairns Post Pasco Rogato told me I had to ask you about the time you were crash-tackled by a guy while in the Joe Blake suit (right). What are your memories of that?

ATo look back now, it is kind of funny, but at the time it was pretty serious as the Monica Seles stabbing incident had occurred not long prior. The majority of onlookers at the time actually thought it was part of a gag. It wasn’t until the “wrestle” made its way from centre court to the cheerleaders’ seats that people stepped in to break it up. It was big news at the time, making plenty of the TV sports programs and the front page of The Cairns Post. Funnily enough, in the background of the picture used on the front page was one of my cousins, John Nash having a good old laugh, thinking it was all part of the show.

QI hear you are a big baseball man, could you play a bit in your day?

AI did make more comebacks than Johnny Farnham over 20-plus years in playing locally in the Cairns Baseball League. I played in a couple of representative teams over the years and won a couple of premierships, but certainly didn’t have the natural talent to play at any sort of elite level. To be honest, I actually enjoyed coaching baseball more than playing the game.
