CAIRNS will come alive with the sound of carols tomorrow night at Fogarty Park.

Mayor Bob Manning was looking forward to a great show, despite forecasts of rain.

“The concert will showcase some of the wonderful local talent we have in Cairns,” he said. “More than 300 performers of all ages will appear on stage throughout the night as thousands of audience members sing along in support.”

Volunteers from HMAS Cairns were down at the park yesterday morning helping to set up the Christmas tree.

Navy Seaman Jess Lowth said volunteers are always lending a hand at local events.

“I’m sure lots of families from the bases will want to come out and spend time with loved ones,” she said.

Entertainment starts at 5.30pm with a community concert, followed by a Carols Spectacular presented by Calvary Christian Church from 7pm. The evening doubles as the major fundraiser for the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Appeal. Santa Claus will make an appearance and the show will end at 8.30pm with fireworks. In the event of heavy rain or storms, check the Cairns Regional Council Facebook page for updates.
