MARTIAL ARTS SKILLS TAILORED FOR WOMEN
PORT Douglas woman Bree Belfrage is holding a special women’s self-defence course at the Port Douglas Community Hall today. Spurred on by the murder of Toyah Cordingley, Ms Belfrage said she wants to help create an environment where women can feel safe walking out and about. “Having a murder in our own back yard has really hit home to a lot of people and also has a lot of women living in fear. I want to empower women, give them a voice, make them aware and to also teach people there is help out there, along with some basic self-defence moves, that will be taught by some very experienced Bushi Kai karate teachers,” Ms Belfrage said. The session is on from noon-4pm today at the community hall and is open to all ages. Any money raised on the day will be donated to Mossman and Port Douglas domestic violence services.
