PETER CARRUTHERS rescues were carried out at the popular swimming hole leading into the weekend.

Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said swimming in rainforest creeks might be considered a rite of passage for locals, but caution was needed.

“Never swim in any creek, river, causeway or drain during or after rain and check for currents before you enter the water.

“And, it goes without saying, always supervise kids around any waterway.”

Yesterday afternoon 2500 people were without power at Redlynch, Brinsmead, Kamerunga and Manoora.

It came after 900 Ergon customers at Edmonton, Gordonvale and Bentley Park were affected by an outage “requiring emergency repairs”.

Cassandra Cook said she saw three “massive green explosions” coming from transformers on Draper Rd at Gordonvale on Thursday.
