PETER CAR­RUTHERS res­cues were car­ried out at the pop­u­lar swim­ming hole lead­ing into the week­end.

Cairns Mayor Bob Man­ning said swim­ming in rain­for­est creeks might be con­sid­ered a rite of pas­sage for lo­cals, but cau­tion was needed.

“Never swim in any creek, river, cause­way or drain dur­ing or after rain and check for cur­rents be­fore you en­ter the wa­ter.

“And, it goes with­out say­ing, al­ways su­per­vise kids around any wa­ter­way.”

Yes­ter­day af­ter­noon 2500 peo­ple were with­out power at Red­lynch, Brins­mead, Kamerunga and Manoora.

It came after 900 Er­gon cus­tomers at Ed­mon­ton, Gor­don­vale and Bent­ley Park were af­fected by an out­age “re­quir­ing emer­gency re­pairs”.

Cas­san­dra Cook said she saw three “mas­sive green ex­plo­sions” com­ing from trans­form­ers on Draper Rd at Gor­don­vale on Thurs­day.
