Tips for providing nutritious lunchbox

-

PETER CARRUTHERS SENDING your kids off to school with a lunchbox packed with healthy options needn’t be a time consuming and expensive morning ritual.

Nutritionist Janelle Twine says something as simple as chopped up celery and carrot topped with hummus are real winners at recess.

“Bliss balls are another idea and chopped up fruit and olives. Homemade sushi and mini quiches are quite easy too,” she said.

“Two other things that are great are smoothies and leftovers or slow cooked meals which are very filling and tasty.”

Using all the colours of the rainbow in vegetable and organic cheese kebabs, Ms Twine said was a good way to make lunches visually appealing at the same time as providing a range of antioxidants.

Also a relief teacher, Ms Twine noticed many kids still eating highly processed sugary lunches. She said it can be overwhelming for parents wanting to make a change but suggested changing one dietary item at a time.
