Selection doubts can’t dent Luongo confidence

- EMMA KEMP

THE moment a Socceroos coach walked through the door, Massimo Luongo drew a line under the sand.

Despite heading to Russia in career-best form, the Queens Park Rangers midfielder spent the World Cup warming the bench under Bert van Marwijk.

The 26-year-old has made peace with it.

“Manager, different. Players, all different. It’s a different set-up,” Luongo said.

Luongo was given the nod against Jordan but was replaced by Jackson Irvine against Palestine.

He returned for the Syria game by virtue of Mark Milligan’s shift to defence to cater for Trent Sainsbury’s onematch suspension.

But with Milligan set to resume his original role in Monday’s round-of-16 tie with Uzbekistan, Arnold will presumably have to choose between him and Irvine.

“I believe I will play, in my head it’s just who I’ll play with,” Luongo said.
