BIG MOVE TO FAR NORTH

-

Q AMike, tell me a little bit about your family and the move up to Cairns from Melbourne?

I have two daughters, one is 20 and the other is 19. Ashton is at university in the USA and Kiersten is here with us, working in Cairns. Our son Josh is 15 going on 16 and he is often hooping here at Cairns Basketball as well as going to school at Peace Lutheran College. The kids are great and my wife Annette, they are all adjusting – moving is brutal. They are enjoying Cairns but it is always hard to move. We came back to Australia six years ago from the States, to Townsville and then to Melbourne, and then a couple of years ago to Cairns. We have moved way too much. It is always difficult that first year more than anything, mostly for my wife and girls because they are not playing sport whereas my son just jumps in and gets in with a team and loves it. It is easy for me that way as well because we have a group of guys with basketball and they are readymade friends. They are enjoying it but we have not really explored Cairns yet, we’ll do a lot more off-season.
