LESSONS OF FIRST YEAR

-

Q This is a super broad question but what have you learnt in your first season as a head coach in the NBL? Obviously there would be a hundred things but is there a couple of main things you have taken away? A First of all, with the group that we have. I think the fact that we have lost but we have continued to play with passion, energy and stay together has shown me that this is the right group of players. It could seem like we could have had a different group but I do not feel that way. We have lost close games that we could have won. The group has shown their character, which is most important, as well as talent. We keep coming back hard the next week, wanting to get better. As tough as it’s been and as much questioning and emulating that needs to be done by myself and the players, it has been an endorsement of the players. I like the players and the group, it has been good as we have built. Secondly, I guess for myself, learning about the guys and giving them direction, it is something we have gotten better as a coaching staff as the year has gone on. I think it has helped the guys to have a clear picture of how they can win basketball games and we can see that over the past month. From my own perspective, giving the guys a clear plan and making sure they know how we win. I still give the guys licence on offence but at the start of the season, we were careless with the ball at times. It is being mindful of taking care of the ball and making the good play on offence.
