Barron boast strong line-up

- ROWAN SPARKES

BARRON Cricket Club finally have their home wicket back in top order after it was damaged late last year, but it won’t be the only thing back to full strength at Crathern Park today.

Coach Ryan Charrington said he would be fielding his strongest side of the year, with hopes of salvaging a season he described as “not ideal” in terms of results.

“The boys are really fired up to win both games,” he said.

“We’ve done some calcula- tions and, if we win both and a couple of results go our way, we’ll finish the T20s in a lot better position than where we were before Christmas.”

Charrington said the return of Tim Ward and young hitters Ben Shrimpton and Andrew Phelps provided a well-balanced batting order.

“Tim will go back to opening with our young keeper Dylan McDonald to build us a bit of a platform in those opening six overs,” he said.

“Shrimpton will come in at four and will look to dominate the innings from there.

“Young Andrew Phelps is another quality batsman. You can put him anywhere in the order, but he’ll come in and do a job for us at five.”

Charrington said teenage bowlers Jack Gardner and Adam Trewin would also be hungry for more wickets after taking 1-16 and 3-29, respectively, in their last outing.

He said the influx of young players stepping up to firstgrade this season had been a highlight and a promising sign.

“They’ve been training really hard, it’s just about getting it all to click and gel,” he said.
