Into school, two by two
AS teachers and students get ready to return to school on Tuesday, one Cairns high school is preparing for double the excitement.
Six sets of twins will bravely walk through the gates of Cairns State High School to start Year 7.
Andrew and Kaleb Fischer, Leah and Rahna Flanagan, Brooke and Skye Rogina, Cleo and Halle Trevett-Lyall and Anessah and Samayah Oakley are identical.
Fellow students Georgia and Luke Nutter are fraternal twins and will hopefully cause less confusion among their teachers.
More than 35,000 students will start the 2019 school year in the Far North region, with a number of changes among some independent schools.
The Rainforest School will open for the first time at Mis- sion Beach with an expected 15 children to enrol from Prep to Year 3 in term one.
The Autism Queensland School’s new Cairns campus will accommodate up to 12 students in Prep to Year 2 in a part-time placement from next week and Cairns Hinterland Steiner School will offer Year 11 for the first time this year and Year 12 in 2020.
Cairns State High School executive principal Christopher Zilm said excitement was building.
“We are rolling out the blue carpet for our new students for 2019 on Tuesday — and how lucky are we to have six sets of twins? Hopefully we won’t start seeing double,” he said.
“(This year) is set to be a great year for Cairns State High.
“We are introducing the new Queensland Certificate of Education in Year 11, building our enormous new hall, setting up our CQUniversity partnership and implementing our Connect program, which will mean that every one of our 1650 students are well known and have someone who meets with them and keeps in contact.”
