Vigoro seniors hoping for titles to go ahead

-

ROWAN SPARKES starts today at Endeavour Park, Manunda, with first matches scheduled to get underway at 9am.

“It’s just about whether the pitch is too slippery,” Lynam said.

“Those pitches use Astroturf, so they’re a lot better and the risk element will be a lot lower. Endeavour Park will be the main venue but, depending on the weather, we may also use a field at Cairns North, across the road from the hockey grounds.”

Four senior teams and five vet teams representing Cairns, Ipswich, Fassifern and the Sunshine Coast will compete for the crown of state vigoro champion, with grand final matches slated for Monday morning.

Earlier this month, Cairns Vigoro Association took two teams – an under-14s and an under-18s team – to the Junior Vigoro State Titles in Boonah, a small town about 90km to the southwest of Brisbane. “We have not been able to field an under-14s junior team for the last three years, so this was a big achievement for us as a sporting community,” said the under-14s coach Megan Shephard.

“Our youngest player was only seven years of age and all the juniors played an awesome carnival.” Cairns under-14s cocaptains Olivia Kaine and Cooper Simpson were picked in the honorary Queensland under-14s side, while under-18s players Kelsie Gammie, Caeli Gammie and Soraya Houghton made the honorary Queensland under-18s side.
