TOUGH CALL FOR DUAL ATHLETES

The Weekend Post - - Sport -

QYou played netball and basketball at an elite level, how difficult was that to manage both sports?

AIt helped that I had coaches who understood that both sports complement each other and very rarely did practices clash. I remember one year going to club netball practise from 6pm to 8pm and then straight to the gym for club basketball from 8pm to 10pm.

QLook at Ellyse Perry (pictured) in cricket in Australia who gave up soccer, if you were forced to just play netball or basketball, which would have you followed on with?

AI was fortunate to be asked to play basketball here in Australia back in the late 1980s with the Nunawading Spectres in the WNBL but when I returned to New Zealand there were very few pathways or options available in basketball. So I guess it made my decision to focus on netball a lot easier.
