Georgia has music on her mind

-

AN emerging singer and songwriter once walked out of her room as a four-year-old, told her mum she was going to become a rock star, then walked back in.

Although 19-year-old Georgia Byrne wouldn’t call herself a rock star just yet, the Cairns musician reached a major milestone in her career when she released her debut single Blank Spaces last month.

Currently in her third trimester of music performance at JMC Academy in Brisbane,

Byrne’s debut single was initially a cog in an assignment, that was workshopped into a published track and music video, using creative energy during the lockdown.

“I don’t think the track would have happened without COVID,” Byrne said.

“Our university went online late March and I’ve been home for about three months.

“This project completely took me out of my comfort zone and is a lot different to the acoustics I normally record.

Adding that element of dance was a great challenge and the feedback has been great.

“I found the restrictions really exciting and motivating because it gave us that push to get this project done.”

Her track features a music video shot around The Peak, Brinsmead.

“We went to start filming at 3am,” Byrne says.

“It was meant to be a sunrise shoot, but then it rained and we didn’t get that effect. The song is about reminiscing on old relationships and the sunrise was supposed to be about the light at the end of the tunnel. But I’m really happy with the end result.”

The video has already attracted about 6000 views on Facebook and Byrne hoped this would mark the beginning of many more published tracks.

“Hopefully I can just get more exposure – it would be awesome to make it on to radio and then hopefully many more singles and maybe an EP.”
