MARDI GRAS TAKES ON TROPPO STYLE

- CHRIS CALCINO

AUSTRALIA’S most fabulous party is set to hit new levels of glamour in Cairns next weekend as the city’s official Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras outpost gears up.

Crystalbrook Collection is almost ready to launch its sunsoaked pool party at Riley to coincide with the Mardi Gras main event in Sydney.

It will be a kaleidoscope of colour and cocktails with poolside lounging, entertainment from outrageous hosts and dancing to the feel-good beats of DJ Jamie Porteous.

The official Mardi Gras parade viewing event will start at Flynn’s Boardwalk Social as the sun starts to set and the b broadcast from the SCG begins.

Crystalb brook Cairns area manager J Joel Gordon said the “tropical rise”-themed party would be spectacular.

“Like all events in 2021, the Sydney Mardi Gras is very different this year,” he said.

“The theme ‘rise’ is perfectly fitting to the challenges and hardships 2020 presented, and it’s fantastic that we can view the parade together as a nation.

“If you’re looking for a fun venue to celebrate in style, you really can’t go past our 1000sq m pool.”

Queensland Council for LGBTI Health CEO Rebecca Reynolds said the theme was about “rising” to the challenges of adversity and inequality.

“This venue is known for its fun and energetic vibe, being ideally placed in the heart of tropical breezes, waterways and Cairns views,” she said.

“This personifies the ‘tropical rise’ theme.”
