MP on front foot for charity walk
ALL Queensland parliamentarians and mayors are being challenged to match Member for Hill Shane Knuth’s and Cassowary Coast Regional Council Mayor Mark Nolan’s donations to former a NRL star’s walk from Cairns to the Gold Coast.
On Wednesday former Maroons player Chris Walker made his way to Innisfail where he and former NRL player Nate Myles met up with Mr Knuth, Cr Nolan and Mission Beach banana grower Steven Lizzio.
Mr Knuth and Cr Nolan both donated $300 and are now calling on their fellow colleagues across Queensland to support this great cause.
Mr Knuth said the walk was a great way to help those going through hard times and a powerful way to gain further support and awareness.
“It is great to see Chris and Nate take on this initiative,” Mr Knuth said.
“My office and I have personally noticed the increase of these issues and that is why it
has encouraged me to put up $300 with Cr Nolan to encourage other MPs and elected representatives to participate.
“The length of this walk will encourage Queenslanders to get involved which will make a huge difference to many struggling families.”
Mr Lizzio said he proudly donated $200 and would be donating bananas to Mr Walker and his team throughout the 66-day challenge.
“It is such a great cause in regard to mental health,” Mr Lizzio said.
“Mental health relates to
the banana industry as we are all affected by it.
“This is such a great cause to get behind and good luck to Chris and his team in the coming weeks.”
Cr Nolan said the appeal was about helping four great charities.
“It is a really good cause, and I am putting out a challenge to all mayors in Queensland to match my $300 donation.
“I hope all mayors better my offer. The challenge is there, and I want them to better it,” he said.
