FNQ GIN IS A WINNER
A FAR North distillery has won an international gin award.
Mt Uncle Distillery’s Botanic Australis Navy Strength gin received the gin of the year award at the 2021 London Spirits Competition last month as well as a gold medal and best in show by country award.
Head distiller and director of Mt Uncle Distillery Mark Watkins said the dominant flavours in the awardwinning gin were lemon scented gum, bunya nut and native ginger.
“The world really hasn’t been exposed to the Australian botanicals and that’s why you’re seeing that popularity,” Mr Watkins said.
He said the 57 per cent gin was best served with tonic.
The distillery also took out silver and bronze awards in the 2021 World Gin Awards earlier this year.
