A DAY TO MAKE MUM FEEL SO SPECIAL

- Nick Dalton Deputy editor

Let’s celebrate motherhood on Sunday. Wrap your arms around your mum and tell her you love her. If she is far away make a phone call or have a video chat.

Mums are the most special people on earth and deserve recognition, not only on Mother’s Day, but every day.

From the day children are born, all the way through school, to university or the first job, to marriage and beyond, mums are there for their offspring.

Mums make tremendous sacrifices for their children. Many give up careers to focus on motherhood to make sure their loved ones have the best start in life.

Mums are, in the main, the parent who feeds, bathes and changes the nappies.

They nurture and comfort, especially during illness, and when kids are upset.

Mums get heavily involved in schooling from buying the first uniforms, making lunches, doing the morning and afternoon school runs, and helping with homework.

They are there for sports and other activities.

Mums encourage and support their children through thick and thin.

They tender to the wounds, the dirty clothes and the sporting field losses. Mums absolutely cherish their youngsters and will defend them at all costs.

They are so proud of their children’s achievements, no matter how small or insignificant.

So it’s time for everyone to celebrate their mums.

On Sunday make sure it is her day off. Let her sleep in, make her breakfast in bed and let her do what she wants to do.

It’s just one day, because on Monday, she will be back being super mum.
