Groan. Cairns Regional Council gave Munro Martin Park an expensive upgrade to make it a community hub and then cap events there to four a month (CP, 27/08). How pathetic. It should host several events per day and the blasted wastrel council should stick its caps where the sun don’t shine. Angry, Cairns
I don’t understand why Cr Rob Pyne was outside protesting, when he was paid by ratepayers to be at a council meeting. GA BRINSMEAD
Hey, wasn’t it greenies who wanted Cairns to focus on tourism because it’s an “environmentally friendly” industry? Why yes, yes it was. With tourism crushed we’re again learning the painful lesson that greenies are always wrong. Back to industry diversification, everyone. It’s time to re-open forestry, farming, fishing and mining (all resisted and blocked by greenies).

For the parents that are trying to pick up their kids from St Monica’s college. Stop blocking traffic turning left into Abbott Street. Florence Street is not a waiting area for the pick-up zone.

Dr Paul Williams (CP, 27/08) claims Labor’s experiment of offering Albanese a plain-speaking, working-class bloke has clearly failed. Well professor, voters haven’t forgotten Morrison’s inept response to the black summer bushfires, the 2021 parliament rape allegations, slow vaccine rollout, and failed quarantine system. Your Newspoll predictions count for nothing.

Realist (CP, 27/08). The Cairns Post reported 700 at the freedom rally. The Australian Bureau of Statistics says Cairns population is 240,190. So actually 0.29 per cent attended, not the 0.01 per cent your maths said. You’re thinking of greenie protests, where 24 people attend – that’s 0.01 per cent. Skye, Machans Beach (CP, 27/08). Greenie of Yorkeys Knob still believes in global warming rising seas? How very 1990s. Mate, with all the sea level rise predictions we’ve heard over the years you should be swimming to the shops by now. Yorkeys should look like Venice. It doesn’t because the warmies are political – not scientific.

Ken Iversen (CP, 27/08). None of what you describe occurred at the Cairns freedom rally. It was a pleasant family afternoon. Your description actually fits the Extinction Rebellion and BLM activists. They’re actually the successors to the KKK and Nazis.

Darryl (CP, 27/8), Moorooboolian (CP, 26/08). Funny how we can’t build a vital fresh water storage dam in our own hills because of a United Nations agreement but other United Nations agreements can be ignored on a whim. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is an agreement with the UN. Our governments are ignoring it completely with their Covid-19 responses. Weird, right?
