because, well, the Cairns box simply must be ticked by all backpackers apparently.

And then, added to this, we have the prospect of a new market cohort: Victorian (and other) VESPAs as well as other workfrom-home types not so much looking to relocate, but who yearn to carry on Zooming amid the dappled light of the palm trees of the Northern Beaches. As you can see I have thought this through.

But we need a cool name and a marketing pitch to snare a share of the one million extra work-fromhome types who might be tempted to Zoom from a room for a month or two in FNQ.

Somehow I think Cairns will be only too happy to create and “own” a new post-Covid market of visitors/short-term residents not so much working from home but working from a tropical retreat.

Count me in Cairns!

Well, colour me startled but my lefty colleagues are starting to doubt Covid and hate on Anna. Apparently the absence of any first-hand evidence of a pandemic got them thinking. Anna might’ve overplayed it, I reckon.

The Tea Lady, Cairns

I am 75 years old and my wife is 74 years old. We attended the Edmonton Vax hub on opening day armed with a letter from our doctor requesting the Pfizer jab for us, we were ushered from seat to seat by a young lady and finally to a corridor to meet the nurse, we presented our letters to be told they may be overruled by the senior nurse. l protested a nurse can’t overrule a doctor, the senior nurse was on the phone, the nurse returned to us and commented to the usher that these people have a doctor’s letter requesting Pfizer, she replied, that end station is vacant. Down we went and were vaccinated with Pfizer. So much for strict controls.

To all the people who have enjoyed their Anzac Day holidays all their lives, but obviously still don’t understand what we were fighting for then, how dare you. How dare you take all those Anzac Day holidays and now fail to fight the tyrants who are removing the very freedoms the Anzacs fought and died for. Disgusting.

Alison A (CP, 3/9). Covid has turned out to be far less deadly and infectious than tuberculosis, and as the Cairns Post has reported, tuberculosis cases from PNG are routinely treated at Cairns Hospital. The curtailing of our freedoms is not in any way proportionate to the severity of Covid, which has been massively over-hyped. The government actions “saved” nobody because there was nothing to save us from that we didn’t experience every flu season.

The recent law for requiring 1500 members to be registered as a political party is most welcome. As well as proving seriousness of a candidate, this should cut down the ridiculous size of the Senate paper for which we voters and electorate staff have had to contend.

Bev, Tolga

The main lesson to learn from this pandemic is that we need a much better system to rein in errant politicians and officials. No established party will offer that policy. Anyone who stands on installing such a mechanism gets my vote.

ARTHUR, ATHERTON

Anyone doubting the severity of Covid should take a look at the death toll in NSW and overseas.

Atticus, Cairns

I saw a left-wing cartoon today which equated Covid to a swimming pool full of sharks. This is the extent of the frenzy that lefties have worked themselves into. The chances of dying from Covid (if our government allowed proper treatment such as India and Philippines use) is six orders of magnitude lower than the pool full of sharks and five orders of magnitude lower than being killed on our roads.
