Mouth-watering line-up for Cairns Food and Wine Festival

- CHRIS CALCINO

A MOUTH-WATERING supplier list has been revealed as the city fires up its gustatory receptors for the Cairns Food and Wine Festival.

Munro Martin Parklands will be taken over by eating, drinking and dancing throngs when the event kicks off for the first time on Saturday next week.

Festival president Nathan Lee Long has locked down a scrumptious list of wineries from Australia and across the pond to be showcased alongside some of the region’s most reputable food vendors.

Ochre Restaurant’s chefs will be preparing a five-course meal to be coupled with premium Australian wines for a special paired dinner for guests who are feeling a bit fancy.

The general admission crowd will have access to 11 wineries and 10 food vendors – including Fetta’s Greek Taverna and Burning Log BBQ – over six hours of entertainment headlined by mercurial rock tribute extravaganza The Killer Queen Experience.

Mr Lee Long said it was going to be an event to remember that would hopefully keep on growing over coming years.

“There have been other food and wine events in Cairns but nothing quite to this scale,” he said.

“We think Munro Martin Parklands is the best place for this particular event but in future years, we would like to have more than just the one event.

“We want to have events on the Esplanade and around the city in various restaurants in what could be a two-week period to celebrate Far North produce and everything that’s on offer.”

For now, Cairns will be content with some glorious drops across four separate bars and more food than it can poke a corkscrew at.

General admission tickets are $2, premium reserved seating is $48 and the five-course paired dinner is $192.

All tickets include a complimentary stemless wine glass on entry. Visit cairnsfoodandwine.com for tickets.
