APPETITE TO FEED HEROES

- SARAH CARROLL

HEALTH staff have become real-life superheroes as the pandemic has taken hold in recent years and the Far North community is stepping up to show its gratitude.

The Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation has received its first major donation to the Health Heroes campaign, with The Northern Frontier Foundation contributing $10,000 to help feed health workers.

The foundation’s acting chief executive, Joe Cristaldi, said the money raised by the campaign would go to providing meals for health staff in the FNQ region.

“We know so many staff of the health service are under a lot of pressure but continue to care tirelessly for patients. In these circumstances, you don’t get time to cook or go to the shops, so this is our way of giving our health heroes a boost,” he said.

Cairns Hospital Covid services nurse manager Alex Rodgers said: “It’s these acts of kindness that help.”
