Beer tax move
BEER drinkers will receive 30c off schooners and 20c off pots as Prime Minister Scott Morrison seeks to resurrect his election fortunes and rescue flailing pubs and clubs. Sources say a push to halve excise tax on draught beer, which has the backing of up to a dozen government backbenchers, is being considered for next month’s federal budget. The Brewers Association estimates draught beer sales in Australia have fallen by $2bn since the pandemic started.
