TOP TIGER WINS ROAR-SOME MP’S AWARD

-

TULLY Tigers Rugby League Club president, Anthony Emmi, has been presented with a local MP’s Good Australian Award for his services to rugby league.

Mr Emmi was presented with the award by Cassowary Coast Council Deputy Mayor Barry Barnes, and Hill MP Shane Knuth, earlier this month during the Tully Tigers Jersey Auction.

The Good Australian Award, instituted by Kennedy MP Bob Katter, recognises hardworking North Queenslanders, and recipients can use the postnominal letters GA after their name.

Mr Katter said Mr Emmi’s work with junior and senior rugby league players in the Tully area had resulted in two local boys playing in the National Rugby League (NRL).

“Thomas Flegler has already played for Queensland in State of Origin, and I have no doubt that Jake Clifford will get an Origin jersey as well,” Mr Katter said.

“Anthony has spent countless hours training young players and administering the game. He was a driving force behind Tully’s new grandstand. He contacted Shane Knuth and myself and made sure we got funding off the state and federal governments.”
