Sweet life

-

Moscato is a sweet wine made from muscat grapes. It can be bottled in white, fizzy or rosé wines, served chilled. Moscato’s friendly acid, low alcohol and sweetness makes it great for spicy Asian dishes, with a fruit platter or dessert. Drink with pancakes, or poured over them instead of maple syrup.

Kate Peck Innocent Bystander Pink Moscato, 2020, Victoria, $17

Prepare for sensory overdrive with notes of Turkish delight, bright red berries and nougat. Black and gordo muscat grapes create this bubbly party-pleaser from Swan Hill. At 5.5 per cent alcohol, it’s the perfect adult drink for kids’ parties.

Belena Moscato, NV, Australia, $19

Could you walk past this wine on a shelf without stopping for a second glance? I think not. The unique bottle screams “gift me!” and is likely to end up holding flowers. Until then, pop it on ice and enjoy tasty flavours of honeysuckle, apricot and ripe peach.

Brown Brothers Moscato, 2018, King Valley, $12.50

Brown Brother’s reputation as one of our most popular moscato producers is justified. This white moscato has lovely aromas of soft citrus with musk and ripe tropical fruits on the palate. A delight with a fruit platter after a long, lazy lunch.

Fiore Moscato, 2020, Mudgee, $17

This delicate drop from the renowned Robert Oatley family is subtly spritzy, its sweetness nicely balanced by its acidity. Fiore means “flower” in Italian so expect pretty, soft floral aromas – best enjoyed on a picnic rug.
