CAIRNS Saints product Akayla Peterson will continue her journey to the AFLW this weekend, joining up with Port Melbourne in the VFLW for the 2022 season.

The midfielder played 10 games for Carlton’s VFLW team last year, winning the club’s best and fairest award with 56 votes.

Later in the year Peterson was taking the field for the Saints in the Far North, winning a second premiership and taking match best and fairest.

The known state and regional netball gun was also named in the AFL Cairns women’s team of the year, adding to her already sterling resume.

Carlton finished eighth on the VFWL ladder last year, while her new team – nicknamed the Borough – placed third.

The move to Port Melbourne gets Peterson closer to her AFLW side Richmond, whom Peterson trained with in the off-season but has yet to make the starting list.

The Borough will go up against the Casey Demons on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, fellow Saints teammate and Team of the Year player Courtney Jones continues to have a solid debut for the Blues in the AFLW, averaging more than nine disposals and three marks per game through five matches.
