MADDIE’S PHE-GNOMENAL MAKEOVERS ARE NOW FLYING OFF THE SH-ELF

- BRONWYN FARR

YOUNG entrepreneur Maddie Ward has caught the proverbial tiger by the tail with her booming business giving worn-out garden ornaments a bright new lease of life.

The nine-year-old Mareeba State School student has Tablelands residents lining up with their faded favourites for a splash of Maddie’s colour.

“I was painting an ornament that had no colour, Dad told me I should start a business, so I did,” she said.

“It’s very busy – I made one that was blushing and that is my most interesting.”

She plans to use funds raised to buy more paint supplies.

Mum Jenni Ward said she did not think locals grappling with Covid would be interested.

“Boy was, I wrong – we can’t believe the amount of makeover requests,” Mrs Ward said.

“She got a sense of pride from doing them and decided she could earn a bit of pocket money.

“Maddie has impressed me with the amount of care and respect that she is treating her customers’ beloved garden ornaments with – quite a few we have received are many years old and hold a great deal of sentimental value to the owners.”
