O’Neill made his state debut for NSW at the age of 18 before progressing to Test selection at 21 in 1958. He played 42 Test matches for Australia, scoring a total of 2779 runs at an average of 45.55.

Hudson played for Hawthorn and is considered one of the greatest fullforwards of all time. He holds the highest career goal-pergame average (5.64). Hudson kicked 150 goals in the 1971 season.
