Courtney hits road in fight with cancer
MAKE every moment count is the message from a Cairns mum who was diagnosed with incurable cancer.
After Courtney Pitcher was diagnosed with breast cancer she continued to beat the odds but time now is precious.
The 34-year-old said she knows her time is limited and wanted to make the most of every moment with her son, Heath, 15, that she could.
She said her diagnosis was dire but her spirits were high.
“There is not much that can be done from here moving forward, other than to be as comfortable as possible, and to make the very most out of the time I have left on the planet,” she said.
“So whether I have a day, a month, or a year I am ready to make the most of this game of life, and am ready to live my life to the fullest.”
Ms Pitcher said she was incredibly grateful a GoFundMe campaign to allow her to travel and make the most of what was left of her very short life with her teenage son had touched the hearts of Far North residents, with nearly $3000 raised so far,
Ms Pitcher said the donations meant the world to her at a very difficult time.
“I feel so grateful that people, many of whom I have never met, have donated,” she said.
“They make me feel amazing. I reached out because my disability pension does not quite cover the type of living I want to the end.”
Ms Pitcher said she was in a bus travelling to the Gold Coast to see her son.
“My driver Steve is here as, because of my medication, I am unable to drive on my own. We left Cairns on Sunday.
“I’m going to live ferociously,” she said.
“I found a lump on my breast four years ago and I was diagnosed with breast cancer that metastasised to the lung, bones and brain.
“But I have defied the odds. I was even in palliative care but I got out thanks to my determination to make every moment count.”
