Hopefuls dive in to final meet

-

ABOUT 250 swimmers from 13 clubs across the Far North will be diving into Tobruk Memorial Pool on the weekend for the FNQ Swimming Championships.

This will be the final meeting before selections begin for nationals, making every lap count for many a competitive swimmer.

This includes 12-year-old Saints Swimming Club members Logan Lockyer and Sophie Greatorex, who took out most of the top races in their age group last year.

“There’s more competition this year, with everyone getting older and more people coming into the competition,” Greatorex said.

“I’m more targeting the longer distance events this year rather than the shorter races.

“I still hope to do pretty well and get some PBs.”

Lockyer said he was keen to get some more personal bests of his own.

“I think I’ve been getting better at breaststroke, that’s one (event) I think I’ll get faster at this weekend,” he said.

Swimming will get under way at Tobruk Memorial Pool from 9am Saturday.
