Prune bougainvilleas back hard, side dress with a complete fertiliser and check that the plant is in a well-drained spot in full sun.

Clean out old pots in the shed and take to a school or nursery for recycling. 3

A hint for planting out in hot weather: water the plant first and then the hole: wet plant in a wet hole, back-fill and water again.

Plant sweet potato runners in large mounds or into pots for spring harvest.
