RANGE SOLUTION IS BORING
I SEE the debate about improving access to the Tablelands is back on the agenda.
Must be an election coming soon. While widening the Kuranda
Range would be the cheapest, most preferred option, there’s one old idea that would require no approval from the World Heritage Authority and that’s a tunnel from Redlynch to Speewah.
Yes it’s a horrendously expensive solution. But all of that expense would be construction costs and not environmental impact studies.
Once it’s built, the Tablelands would finally have a quick, safe,
floodproof connection to the coast. And there are a couple of boring machines, currently building Brisbane’s cross river rail connection, that are going to be lying idle soon.
