Get readyto rumble… at the ridge

- HARRY MURTOUGH

FIGHTERS from Cairns Muay Thai gyms will journey down south to battle it out at Rumble at the Ridge 34 in Brisbane on Saturday.

DF Gym’s Fight Academy will be sending fighters Jack Chalker, Kristen Filitonga, Hannah Dayes, Juan Pablo Juarez, Tristian Picton and Jesse Clarke to the statewide series.

Clarke, Filitonga and Picton will all be fighting for Queensland WKBF titles against Boneman NTG (Logan), Karolyn Kleinharr (Burleigh Heads) and Dean Anderson (Geebung) respectively.

“Everyone’s been pushing pretty hard,” DF Gym trainer Patrick Doherty said.

“It’s good when you’ve got a whole lot of fighters aiming for the same goal on the same weekend. Everyone pushes each other so they’re all pumped.

“They’re all hard fights, but we don’t mind taking hard fights – you’ve got to take some risks to get that kind of reward.

“We’re looking forward to the challenge and hopefully we’ll come home with a few more belts.”

The event comes after fellow DF fighter Thomas ‘Tank’ McRoberts felled Liam Hennings by decision to claim the state welterweight title at Destiny 18.

Nukzu fighter Josh West also had success at Destiny 18, knocking out Nick Browning to claim the state middleweight belt.

While fellow Nukzu fighter Tandia Singleton lost her fight at Destiny 18, she’ll be in top form for Rumble at the Ridge as she takes on Jess Turner (Morayfield).

Pretty Muay Thai fighter Jessie Geyl will also make the journey south this weekend to defend her 69kg state title against Whitney Geoghegan (Burleigh Heads).

Doors will open at 4pm with the fighting starting at 5pm.
