Mental health check-up
MAREEBA residents can expect a few extra visitors at their doorsteps as a new project to get community members talking about their mental health takes a stroll around town.
The Assisting Communities through Direct Connection (ACDC) project is run by Community Mental Health Australia in partnership with the Mareeba Community Centre and aims to have personal conversations with locals about their mental health and what more could be done for them in the community while also connecting them with wellbeing services in the area.
Falen Stewart is a CMHA “people connector” and has been going door-to-door in Mareeba over the past month.
Ms Stewart said community members have welcomed the support and concern for their mental health.
“I think it gives people some reassurance that there is help available and that someone is hearing and documenting their concerns,” she said.
“The residents of Mareeba have been happy to share their insights into what the community needs.”
