Plea after rider killed
FORENSIC police have launched an investigation into a deadly crash that claimed the life of a young motorcycle rider in Edmonton on Thursday.
Dashcam and CCTV footage is being sought by witnesses or anyone in the area near Exploration Way following the fatality, which happened sometime before 3.30pm.
Three Queensland Ambutorcycle lance units rushed to the scene, including one critical care team, who worked to save the 25-year-old motorcyclist. He could not be saved and died at the scene.
The death is the second on Far North roads this week following an accident in Mareeba on Tuesday which claimed the life of 84-yearold Col Thompson.
It also follows the death of popular Port Douglas woman Shanti Wren on March 2, who was thrown from a mo
as a passenger at Barrier St, Port Douglas.
The spike in fatalities prompted a safety message from Assistant Commissioner Ben Marcus, who announced a new technology product that allows the community to easily upload digital evidence, such as video footage and photographs, to the Police Service to help investigations.
“As riders, our safety is largely up to us. On a motorcycle, you are 30 times more likely to die in a crash than if you were in a car – when everything on the road is bigger than you, you just have to be more careful,” he said.
Police said the Mount Peter man’s motorcycle left the roadway and hit nearby objects.
Police urge anyone with information relating to the crash, or anyone who has dashcam or CCTV vision around that time, to contact Policelink with the reference QP2200505687.
