WELL what to do now. For years Russia protested against what it saw as a threat to its security, ie NATO bases in the Ukraine. Now the Solomons intend to allow Chinese bases on our doorstep.

Do we now protest and get ignored like the Russians or do we act and become hypocrites?

Most of our lives our family has lived in areas without mains water supply and for many years relied on a single water tank.

During one period of “dryness”, as our tank became dangerously low, we looked around for water savings could be made.

As Beth identified, we also noticed wastage, especially with the kids, when cleaning teeth and having the water constantly running while everyone’s tap turning hand is occupied with toothbrush operations.

Problem easily solved – change the taps over.

Now for the past 50 years the one tap in our home over the bathroom hand basin has the cold water on the left-hand side, turned on and off only as necessary and no doubt millions of litres of precious water conserved.

Over that period our many visitors easily identified the green colour tap button as cold.
