DRAWN TO ARCHIE 100

-

RECENTLY I went to the Archie 100 exhibition at the Cairns Art Gallery. This is a collection of 100 years of the Archibald Prize for Australian portraits.

There are prize portraits from the 1920s to the present time. It is, in a way, a portrait of Australia. I particularly liked the portraits of former Prime Ministers Paul Keating, in a splendid suit, and a young John Howard in shorts and thongs, side by side!

It is not just for “arty” people – but for everyone. It is a superb exhibition that I would recommend to all.

A big thank you to the Cairns Art Gallery for bringing such a great national exhibition to Cairns. I hope everyone in Cairns can see it. It is open seven days and is free. John Weir, Clifton Beach
