Assault charge

POLICE have charged a 22year-old Cairns man with multiple charges after allegedly headbutting an officer on Thursday night.

Police allege about 8.30pm on March 31 officers located the man on Lake St after he had earlier received a police banning notice not to attend the safe night precinct due to his aggressive behaviour and making threats to assault police.

Police arrested the man after he failed to leave the area.

While police were escorting him to the police vehicle, the man is alleged to have headbutted an officer to the side of her face.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday, April 1.
