TO DO THIS WEEK IN THE GARDEN

1Take care if paper wasps are building nests. If the nest is low and in a traffic area, spray using a citronella spray. If the nest is out of reach, leave it and the wasps will be of benefit, as they will control caterpillars in the garden.

Pour a little stale beer into saucers to catch slugs on seedling benches before they eat the small plants. 3

Check ixoras, gardenias and azaleas for iron deficiency (yellow leaves), treat with chelate of iron if diagnosed.

Plant pak choi and tatsoi seed directly into prepared garden beds, and prepare containers or a garden bed for seeding carrots in April.
