LAKE EACHAM COUPLE TUCKS INTO NEW VENTURE

- BRONWYN FARR

THE Gillies Cafe and Bar at Yungaburra has a new lease of life with Lake Eacham couple Crystal and Ashley Barbagello taking over the boutique business.

Ms Barbagello said the couple had wanted to buy the cafe for some time.

“It has such potential, it is in the best location, at the top of the range with beautiful views, it is at the entrance to the Tablelands,” she said.

“We will be expanding by opening Friday and Saturday nights, hopefully sooner rather than later.”

The menu has been refreshed with appetising acai bowls on offer and an enticing ploughman’s platter with local cheese.

The cafe offers a regular coffee and bacon and egg muffin for $8.

“We are trying to source local produce wherever possible, we use Mungalli’s, Gallo, Stockman’s Eggs and Curcio Produce,” Ms Barbagello said.

“I am still pinching myself to make sure I’m not going to wake up from a dream as I have been wanting to take on this cafe for such a long time.

“We are super passionate about food.”

The licensed cafe at 1200 Lake Barrine Rd, Yungaburra, will be open over Easter from 8am to 2pm.
