Sex worker client case goes to trial

- MATTHEW NEWTON

A SEX worker charged with causing the death of a Brisbane businessman in what police allege was a sex act gone wrong will take the matter to trial.

Madeleine Joan Lewin was charged on August 17, 2020, with one count of manslaughter over the death of 52year-old Brisbane auditor Anthony Brady.

An indictment charging Ms Lewin with one count of manslaughter was presented to the Cairns Supreme Court on Thursday morning.

Police allege Ms Lewin and Mr Brady met at the Sunshine Tower Hotel in the Cairns CBD in August 2020, and that she fled the hotel room after a sex act went wrong.

Lawyer for Ms Lewin, Mark Butler, and Crown prosecutor Aaron Dunkerton told Justice Peter Applegarth the matter was to be listed for trial.

Mr Butler said he was seeking a listing for the sittings before Justice Jim Henry on September 5, and that the trial would last about four or five days.

The court heard Ms Lewin was in custody at the Southern Queensland Correctional Centre at Gatton.

Justice Applegarth made a direction for Ms Lewin to appear in person for the trial.
