ANTI-CHINA ATTITUDE

- Danny O’Shane, Holloways Beach

IT IS hard to understand the Australian government’s dislike of China and reaction to its deals with the Solomon Islands.

It is said China has lifted 300 million of its people out of poverty in the last decade or so. An absolutely marvellous human feat.

Many African nations applaud their involvement in the development of their nations. Xi Jinping is greatly admired by many African people (I wonder how popular ScoMo is over there). Quite unlike the European nations who colonised their countries and traded their people to work as slaves in Europe and the internally troubled US.

Why should our government and opposition jointly oppose China’s involvement with the Solomon Islands? China has a far better record in helping developing nations than Australia or the US.

Australia has not been able to bring its First Nations people out of poverty as it takes all of its natural wealth for the enrichment of the few. The Gina Rineharts, the Clive Palmers and the Twiggy Forrests, billionaires tearing out resources and not giving back enough to the First Nations people whose land they take it from.

I see China as one of the greatest nations on earth, it seems others see it, because of its system of governance, as a threat to humanity so they saturate their media with negative and misleading information.

Today’s media keeps droning on about threats to our national security, hyping everyone up in this largely Christian society against their fellow man. Christian values?

Such attitudes are anathema for those of us who truly love their fellow man no matter race (if in fact there exists different races of humanity), colour or creed.
